Horn Charts Series: "Hasta Que Te Conoci"

Play this one right and you’ll get tipped extra, I promise. It’s a simple arrangement but oh so effective! I like playing the salsa charts that don’t rely on the extremities of your chops to pull them off, and instead use rhythm and layering effectively to add interest to the horn part—this arrangement kills it.

As always with salsa, count in a two feel and double-check the endings of each phrase that rely on dotted quarter-eighth note rhythms. The interlude at letters E and H always feel a bit off from the pulse (to me, at least) so you might as well practice until you memorize it so you’re not thrown off in performance.

In my ongoing effort to distribute correct information and spread goodwill, I'm posting PDF files of my transcribed horn charts for pop/variety band (3-piece: trumpet, tenor sax, trombone). I consider these selections as standard repertoire for the modern commercial musician, so think of these as educational tools to help you get through the gig. Like a Real Book for the pop musician—except with editing.
