Horn Charts Series: "Cuff It"

Beyonce’s Renaissance is here, which means you’re going to start hearing a bunch of new dance music for the next 12 months to forever. It’s a VERY strong album—one that really leans into its house music roots. I’ve heard it described as “trap-house”, which I think fits very well.

Anyways, here’s the horn parts to “Cuff It”. This will, in my opinion, probably be the biggest dance single from the record so you’d better be able to play it! It uses a repeated horn line in unison to great effect, just as “Crazy in Love” once did waaay back in 2003. But, the highlight for me is the very cool bass line that first appears about halfway through. Have fun with this one!

In my ongoing effort to distribute correct information and spread goodwill, I'm posting PDF files of my transcribed horn charts for pop/variety band (3-piece: trumpet, tenor sax, trombone). I consider these selections as standard repertoire for the modern commercial musician, so think of these as educational tools to help you get through the gig. Like a Real Book for the pop musician—except with editing.
