Horn Charts Series: "Can't Take My Eyes Off You"
The orchestration is “the thing” here. While the catchy horn line of the pre-chorus is the most memorable part (second maybe to Neil Diamond’s “Sweet Caroline” chorus), there’s a WHOLE LOT happening in addition to that. Be mindful of the dynamics, since the backing horn lines (quasi-French horn) add such a depth to any band that’s able to perform with dynamics. That all being said, there are many other horn and string cues if you’re up for it.
This is the odd tune that modulates once, only to modulate back to its original key (from E major to G major and back to E again). A word of caution: Check your key signature(s) on this one before playing. I’ve played this is so many different keys, with different keys for the modulation and different styles of modulation, too. It can get very dizzying to keep up with the changes from the original. This is also a tough one to end, with many bands using is as a medley piece, but I’ve opted to adapt Valli’s own quick tag ending to G major heard here.

In my ongoing effort to distribute correct information and spread goodwill, I'm posting PDF files of my transcribed horn charts for pop/variety band (3-piece: trumpet, tenor sax, trombone). I consider these selections as standard repertoire for the modern commercial musician, so think of these as educational tools to help you get through the gig. Like a Real Book for the pop musician—except with editing.
